The upcoming movie "By the Sea" reunites Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt for the first time since "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" was released in 2005 on the eve of the celebrity tsunami known as "Brangelina."

One decade and a bunch of kids later, the couple star in this 1970s-set drama as a husband and wife reeling from marital problems. Written and directed by Jolie, "By the Sea" was shot on their real-life honeymoon.

“It’s not autobiographical,” Jolie tells Vogue. “Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters’ were even remotely close to our problems we couldn’t have made the film.”

Jolie says "By the Sea" is the only film "completely based on my own crazy mind," so dark and out-there that she never dreamed it would ever be produced. She and Pitt would refer to the script as "the crazy one” and “the worst idea.”

Now moviegoers will be introduced to that as-yet-unseen part of Jolie, in a film that she says explores the idea: “You can absolutely love the same person you want to kill.”

“As artists we wanted something that took us out of our comfort zones," Jolie says. "Just being raw actors. It’s not the safest idea. But life is short.”
