Ben Aickin Biography

Ben Aickin is a digital compositor at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Aickin began his career in the mid-2000s at Framestore CFC, where he contributed as a compositor and digital artist on major studio releases such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Superman Returns (2006), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), and The Golden Compass (2007).

During this period, he advanced into senior and lead compositing roles, also working on films including Wanted (2008), Australia (2008), Sherlock Holmes (2009), Clash of the Titans (2010), War Horse (2011), and Gravity (2013), the latter while at Framestore. From the mid-2010s onward, Aickin's career became closely associated with Industrial Light & Magic, where he contributed to numerous blockbuster franchises.

His film credits from this period include Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), Ant-Man (2015), Doctor Strange (2016) Star Wars productions with Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019), as well as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), Eternals (2021), and F9: The Fast Saga (2021).

Aickin has also served as a digital compositor on The Mandalorian (2019) and later as a compositor on Loki (2021-2023), contributing to the second season. His work on Loki included the creation of historically styled digital environments, notably the World's Fair White City sequence in Season 2, Episode 3, set in 1893. In addition, he worked as a digital compositor on the ABBA virtual concert project ABBA Voyage (2022), which blended performance capture with large-scale digital environments.

In the 2020s, Aickin has continued in lead roles on major studio releases, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), A Quiet Place: Day One (2024), Gladiator II (2024), Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025), and Avengers: Doomsday (2026). Aickin was nominated for a 2024 Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode, Commercial, Game Cinematic or Real-Time Project for "World's Fair White City" in Loki Season 2 (2023), shared with Christian Waite, Francesco Ferraresi, and Pieter Warmington.

He also received a nomination at the 2024 Hollywood Professional Association Awards for Outstanding Visual Effects – Live Action Episode or Series Season for Loki Season 2, shared with Pieter Warmington, Christian Waite, Steve Moncur, and Jeremy Sawyer.
